Many of us express our gratitude to God by saying “Thank You, Lord!” We are admonished to give thanks to the Lord and sing praises to the Lord because He loves us and will fulfill His purpose towards us (Psalm 138:8).
This year alone we have encountered many experiences that caused us to laugh on some occasions and cry at others. Giving thanks helps us to remember that while life may not feel too good at the moment…God is faithful. Our thanks are not based on our circumstances but in God’s sufficiency.
A thankful attitude positions us to receive from God what we need. A thankful attitude is a confession of our dependence on God. A thankful attitude is an acknowledgement that we need him to sustain us when we are feeling powerless.
Let us really take time this Thanksgiving season and use it as an opportunity to nurture a sense of gratitude in our family. Giving thanks to the Lord because He is the essence of all that is good (Psalm 107:1). This attitude is sometimes swallowed up in our “Give me more culture”. An attitude of gratitude is a matter of the heart which is rooted in the humbling of oneself before God and trusting Him.
As we seek His face and not His hand, praising and thanking Him with our heart, mind and Soul, we will discover the manifold blessing of God has fallen like rain in our lives.
Your thankful giving servant,
Ron Burgess
